A Progression of Abnormal Knee Kinmatics during a Leg Press Activity in Primary Knee Osteoarthritis: a 3d-to-2d Registration Technique

چکیده

INTRODUCTION: Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a disabling disorder affecting up to 13% of individuals aged 65 years and older [1]. The medial compartment is most commonly affected. Many researchers suggest contributing biomechanical factors in the development of knee OA include body weight, knee alignment, muscle strength, knee kinematics, and strenuous activities [1-2]. Although gait and mechanical analyses are suggestive, no in vivo study to date has revealed the reason why the medial compartment is most commonly affected. There is little knowledge on knee pathokinematics as related to the development and progression of the knee OA. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine if knee kinematics change with knee OA disease progression.

Ankle rotation changes and its influences in knee osteoarthritis

Background : Biomechanical factors are known to be important in knee osteoarthritis (OA) development and progression. This study was designed to determine changes of hamstrings muscle activation, knee adduction moment and ankle rotation angle in two knee osteoarthritis (mild and moderate) and a healthy control group.   Methods: 16 females (10 with mild and 6 with moderate medial knee osteoart...

New Findings in Six-degrees-of-freedom Kinematics during Stationary Stepping in Patients with Knee Osteoarthritis

Background: Frontal plane knee kinematics are more likely associated with the development or progression of knee osteoarthritis. However, detailed frontal plane knee kinematics remain unclear. Previous studies examined movement during gait, squatting or stair stepping which allowed compensatory motion. However, biomechanical parameters in gait analyses can be modified. Therefore, we analyzed mo...

Effects of backward gait training protocol on knee adduction moment and impulse during walking in patients with medial knee osteoarthritis

Background and Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of backward gait training protocol on knee adduction moment and impulse in male patients with medial knee osteoarthritis. Materials and Methods: This quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest design included two control groups (healthy and patient) and an experimental group (subjects with medial knee osteoarthritis)...

The effects of neuromuscular exercise on medial knee joint load post-arthroscopic partial medial meniscectomy: ‘SCOPEX’ a randomised control trial protocol

BACKGROUND Meniscectomy is a risk factor for knee osteoarthritis, with increased medial joint loading a likely contributor to the development and progression of knee osteoarthritis in this group. Therefore, post-surgical rehabilitation or interventions that reduce medial knee joint loading have the potential to reduce the risk of developing or progressing osteoarthritis. The primary purpose of ...

Knee osteoarthritis diagnosis, treatment and associated factors of progression: Part II

Diagnosis of knee osteoarthritis can be confirmed based on clinical and/or radiological features. The potential of a progressive disease can be prevented or decreased by earlier recognition and correction of associated factors. Obesity and alignment especially varus malalignment are recognized factors of a progressive disease. Both nonpharmalogical as well as pharmacological modalities of treat...
